The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, North University Centre of Baia Mare, in partnership with Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas, Ukraine, (Leader) and the Association Academic Organization for Research. Innovation and Professional Development cu in Tăuții Măgherăuș, implement the project “Ro-Ua Cross-border Academic Development for Research and Innovation” financed through the Joint Operational Programme Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020, with a total budget of 293,640.00 Euro (1,415,350.00 Ron), between 12.02.2020 and 11.08.2021.
The aim of the project is to increase the research and innovation potential in the region in order to reduce the technological inequality and to promote economic development in the cross-border area of the Maramureș County (Romania) – the Ivano-Frankivsk region (Ukraine).
The activities of the project are meant to develop cooperation between the partner universities in Ukraine and Romania, as well as of the NGO with companies throughout the region in order to take advantage of the joint research and innovation potential for the real needs of companies, exchanges of experience and cooperation opportunities in innovative technical development.
The project promotes and facilitates cooperation amongst specialists and researchers through the recently founded society “RoUa Society for Innovation and Research” (RoUa SIR) located in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine.
In each of the two universities a “Centre for Innovative Development” is created and equipped with modern technology: numerically controlled machines, 3D Printer, 3D Scanner, as well as educational equipment: smart board, VR glasses, educational robotic arm, humanoid robot, bionic hand. In the two educational centers programmes for developing the students’ competencies in using modern technology and developing innovative solutions in the fields of mechanics, electricity, electronics and environmental protection will be carried out. Moreover, the improvement of the quality of student projects is envisaged, by offering them access to modern design and production facilities, creating multidisciplinary teams, encouraging the application of innovative ideas.
Educational books and materials for training in the use and employment of the modern equipment belonging to the two Centers will be published. Thus students will be provided with novel knowledge and new challenges will be created. Moreover, the students interested in engineering will be offered a glimpse into this field and the profession.
The almost 30 years of cooperation between the Faculty of Engineering within the North University Centre of Baia Mare with Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas through numerous projects and scientific exchanges lead to mutual development, while the involvement of NGOs, companies and local authorities, to economic development in the cross-border region.
