1 / 50The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, North University Centre of Baia Mare, in partnership with the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas, Ukraine (lead partner) and the Association Academic Organization for Research, Innovation and Professional Development in Tăuții-Măgherăuș, implemented the project "Ro-Ua Cross-border Academic Development for Research and Innovation", financed through the Joint Operational Programme Romania–Ukraine 2014–2020, with a total budget of EUR 293,640.00 (RON 1,415,350.00), between 12.02.2020 and 11.02.2022.
The aim of the project was to increase the research and innovation potential in the region, in order to reduce technological inequality and to promote economic development in the cross-border area of Maramureș County (Romania) and the Ivano-Frankivsk region (Ukraine).
What the project left behind
In each of the two universities a Centre for Innovative Development was created, equipped with modern technology:
- numerically controlled machines
- 3D printer
- 3D scanner
and with educational equipment:
- smart board
- VR glasses
- educational robotic arm
- humanoid robot
- bionic hand
The activities
The project activities were designed to develop cooperation between the partner universities in Ukraine and Romania, as well as cooperation between the NGO and companies throughout the region, in order to take advantage of the joint research and innovation potential for the real needs of companies, exchanges of experience and cooperation opportunities in innovative technical development.
The project promotes and facilitates cooperation amongst specialists and researchers through the society "RoUa Society for Innovation and Research" (RoUa SIR), founded during the project in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine.
In the two educational centres, programmes are carried out for developing students' competencies in using modern technology and developing innovative solutions in the fields of mechanics, electricity, electronics and environmental protection. Moreover, the improvement of the quality of student projects is envisaged, by offering them access to modern design and production facilities, creating multidisciplinary teams and encouraging the application of innovative ideas.
Educational books and materials for training in the use of the modern equipment belonging to the two centres were published. Students interested in engineering are thus offered a concrete glimpse into the field and the profession.
Almost 30 years of cooperation
The cooperation between the Faculty of Engineering within the North University Centre of Baia Mare and the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas has lasted almost three decades, through numerous projects and scientific exchanges. The involvement of NGOs, companies and local authorities added to this collaboration a dimension of economic development for the cross-border region.
