Craft workshops in the Ukrainian Carpathians

During the camp in the Ukrainian Carpathians, students went through several traditional Hutsul craft workshops, each led by a local craftsperson.
What was made
- Egg painting - the technique of drawing with wax and successive dyeing, with the geometric patterns specific to the Carpathian region
- Pottery - throwing on the wheel and preparing the clay
- Dough figures - ritual objects tied to the festivals of the year
- Traditional weaving - the patterns and colours of Hutsul folk costume
Every object made was photographed and documented for the electronic album "Cultural Values in the Common Carpathians". The egg-painting patterns fed into the guide to traditional dyeing crafts, one of the project results.
The same crafts were documented on the Romanian side too, in the Maramureș camp, where students worked on pottery and beadwork.
