A new word in the preservation of cultural traditions - the Root4Dig project

The Department of Ecology at the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas has won an international project in the HUSKROUA 2021–2027 cross-border cooperation programme. The main beneficiary is IFNTUOG. The project manager is Prof. Liudmyla Arkhypova and the project coordinator is Prof. Yaroslav Adamenko, both with successful experience in implementing projects in the HUSKROUA 2014–2020 programme.

The partners with whom more than one project has been implemented over the past 20 years are the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca - North University Center of Baia Mare and the Association Academic Organization for Research, Innovation and Professional Development (project leaders: Assist. Prof. PhD Ramona DEMARCSEK and Assoc. Prof. Eng. Cristian BARZ).

The title of the project is "Rediscovering our Common Cultural Roots and Digitalizing them for Future Generations".

The main goal is to deepen cooperation between technical universities by rediscovering our common cultural roots and digitising them for future generations, while simultaneously developing the communication skills of technical university students to promote cultural heritage in the border region.

The project includes the creation of a cultural centre and the purchase of equipment to digitise cultural heritage. Virtual centres are created simultaneously at both universities. Two student camps are envisaged - one in Romania and one in Ukraine - where students present their culture at an intercultural festival, through art, music, dance and food.

It is innovative that the development of virtual reality programmes using the cultural values of the Carpathians begins during the project and will be continued by students in the future. The e-album "Cultural Values in the Common Carpathians (Ukraine–Romania)" - with the sections Art, Food, Folk Crafts, Folk Traditions, Holidays, Music and Dance - remains available to everyone after the project is completed.

The foundations for this cooperation date back to the 1990s. Since then, numerous joint international projects have been implemented within cross-border cooperation on environmental issues, and practices, conferences and excursions of teachers and students to advanced Romanian enterprises have been organised. Now both institutions have opened new horizons of cooperation.
